Obserwowane w kulturze masowej wyolbrzymianie znaczenia wizerunku człowieka staje się przyczyną zawężania obrazu siebie do ja cielesnego u osób w wieku młodzieńczym. Do ujęcia obrazu ciała zastosowano Skalę Obrazu Ciała (Body Esteem Scale) S.L. Franzoi i S.A. Shielsds’a, zaś do pomiaru empatii użyto Kwestionariusza Empatii Osobowej autorstwa Z. Uchnasta, a inteligencji emocjonalnej Kwestionariusza Inteligencji Emocjonalnej (INTE) w polskim opracowaniu A. Jaworowskiej i A. Matczak.
Observed within in mass culture the overestimation of our image becoming a narrow selfimage into physical- self among youth people. The main aim of this research is to examine the issue if body image defined as a perception of body image, thoughts and feelings relevant to the man’s own body (Fisher, 1990) associated with empathy. Review of the reaserch literature assumes that there is a relationship between body image and empathy as well as emotional intelligence. In order to approach verify hypotheses following methods were employed: Body Image Scale (BES) by S.L. Franzoi i S.A. Shielsds and to measure empathy the Personal Empathy Inventory- PEI by Z. Uchnast and Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire in the Polish study A. Jaworowska & A. Matczak. The group of 244 students from Nowy Sącz and Krakow between 19 to 25 years of age participated in the current study. The analysis of Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient of r- Pearson show that experienced body image for women correlates positively with knowledge of oneself empathy, personal empathy and social freedom. Men’s experienced body image correlates with a general level of empathy and personal empathy. For the entire group of students results indicated body image was related to the ability to identify feelings and the feelings of others as well as the ability to use our emotions to assist thinking. The research study confirmed that people with high level of body image are more empathetic.
